Eighty years ago, WCS naturalist William Beebe and engineer Otis Barton plunged more than 3,000 feet below the ocean's surface and observed never-before-seen marine life in its natural habitat. The descriptions they brought back wowed the world.
Today, WCS continues to occupy a unique position, says New York Aquarium Director Jon Dohlin. We're doing top-level scientific research in places like the New York seascape, and we're able to relay what we find directly to the general public through facilities like the aquarium.
